The Red Fort, the largest monument in Delhi and a best tourist destination in Delhi for Domestic and International visitors. Thousands of Tourists come every year to see it. The Red Fort situated in the Old Delhi, the Shahajahan City, Shahajahanbad.
The Red fort was built by the Mughal Emperor Shahajahan. The Whole Fort was made of red sandstone that’s why it is called Red Fort and it is around 2.5 km in circumference in octagon shape. It is built with very high & width walls. Red fort surrounded by a Big Canal for cooling the fort by the water of Yamuna River because in that time there climate was very hot and the River Yamuna was flowed around the Fort.
The Main gate of the Red Fort is called Lahori Gate which situated in the directions of Lahore facing. This is the gate for traveler’s entry. Fort has also a VIP Gate which was used to entry of Kings and Princess of other Kingdoms that time but now days this is used for the Prime Minister and President of the India who comes for hoists the Indian National Flag on every 15th August.
Red Fort has three museums inside, Diwan I Khas, Diwan I Aam, Hammam, a beautiful lawn, Rang Mahal, Khas Mahal, and Chatta Chowk. Chatta chowk also known as special market named Meena Market which itself became a brand now. This is very beautiful and under budget market for Shoppers especially for women. This market is famous for its Designing Jewelry and Pots. The Meena Market was established by Shahajahan for the women who lived in the Fort because in Mughals Period the women were not allowed to go outside for shopping or anything.
There are a very cool designing on the every wall of the Red Fort and the Nakkashi of Mughal’s Period is world famous. It has a Moti Mosque inside the Fort which was made of pure white marble and one of the famous Mosque by Shahajahan. The Red Fort is situated near the Salimgarh Fort and a bridge used to go in the alternate fort because the River Yamuna floated between the both forts and now days the Indian Rails run over the bridge.
How to reach Red Fort
Red fort, Delhi are reachable by road & metro conveniently. Nearest Metro Station is Chandni Chowk (Blue Line) & from there guest have to walk 700 – 800 Meter from Metro Station. from road all mode of transport available like coaches, auto & private taxies.
